Restore Strength, Comfort, and Confidence in Your Smile
Restorative dentistry is about getting teeth back to normal function and appearance after decay, fracture, or wear. At South Barrington Dental Care, we handle the full range of restorative work in-house, from a single composite filling to a full-mouth rehabilitation. Dr. Allison Bartley uses digital planning, tooth-colored materials, and technologies like CEREC and 3D Scanning for Digital Impressions to ensure that restorations fit precisely and look natural.
Our philosophy for restorative work mirrors our general approach: conservative, transparent, and clinically appropriate. We preserve natural tooth structure whenever possible, recommend only what is needed, and explain pricing in writing before work begins.

Restorative Dentistry
Repair damaged teeth and replace missing ones with durable, natural-looking restorations.
Digital Dentures
Full and partial dentures designed using digital scanning for precision fit. Faster fabrication, better accuracy, and digital records that simplify replacement if a denture is ever lost or broken.
Root Canal Therapy
Save teeth whose nerves have been damaged by decay, trauma, or infection. Modern root canals are routine and comfortable; the pain most people associate with the procedure is the pain they had before it, not during or after.
Dental Fillings
Tooth-colored composite fillings for cavities, small fractures, and worn areas. We do not place amalgam (silver) fillings.
Dental Bridges
Fixed, non-removable replacements for one or more missing teeth. A bridge is anchored to the teeth on either side of the gap and restores both function and appearance.
Same-Day CEREC Crowns
Custom ceramic crowns designed, milled, and placed in a single visit using in-office CAD/CAM technology. No traditional impression, no temporary crown, no second appointment.
Dental Crowns
Full-coverage restorations for teeth that are cracked, broken, heavily restored, or weakened after root canal therapy. Materials include porcelain, zirconia, and porcelain-fused-to-metal, selected based on the tooth and its chewing demands.
How Restorative Treatment Is Planned
Every restorative case starts with a thorough diagnostic workup: digital X-rays, sometimes 3D Cone Beam CT for complex cases, intraoral photography, and an exam by Dr. Allison Bartley. Findings are reviewed with you in plain language, and a written treatment plan is built before any work begins.
For patients needing multiple restorations, we often phase treatment. Urgent work (infections, severe pain, structurally compromised teeth) comes first. Non-urgent work is scheduled as it fits your life and budget. This approach lets you move forward at a comfortable pace without postponing care that genuinely needs attention.

Choosing the Right Restoration
Patients often ask how we decide between a filling, a crown, and an onlay for a damaged tooth. The choice depends on how much natural tooth structure remains, where the damage is, and how much chewing force the tooth will need to handle.
Small decay or fracture:
Minor chips, small gaps, or worn edges:
Onlay or larger composite.
Large damage or weakened tooth:
Dental crown for full coverage.
Cracked tooth with nerve involvement:
Root canal first, then crown
Missing tooth with healthy neighbors:
Multiple missing teeth:
Digital dentures or implant-supported options.
Materials We Use
All of our restorations use tooth-colored, biocompatible materials. Composite resin for fillings. Porcelain, zirconia, or lithium disilicate ceramics for crowns and bridges. We do not use amalgam (silver) fillings and do not recommend their replacement unless they are failing.

Insurance and Financing
Most PPO dental insurance plans cover a portion of restorative work, typically 50-80% after deductible depending on the procedure. We verify benefits before treatment and provide written estimates. For larger cases, CareCredit and GreenSky financing are available. See our finance and insurance page.
Serving the Northwest Suburbs
We treat restorative patients from South Barrington, Inverness, Streamwood, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Arlington Heights.
Common Questions
How long do restorations last?
Composite fillings: 5-10+ years. Crowns: 10-15+ years. Bridges: 10-15+ years. Root-canal-treated teeth with crowns: often a lifetime with good care. Dentures: 5-10 years before needing relining or replacement.
Will my restoration look natural?
Yes. All our crowns, bridges, and fillings use tooth-colored materials matched to your surrounding teeth. For cosmetically sensitive areas, we take extra time to match shade, translucency, and surface texture.
Can you do a crown in one day?
Yes, using CEREC technology. The crown is designed, milled from ceramic, and bonded all in one visit.
Does restorative work hurt?
Local anesthesia blocks pain during all restorative procedures. Post-treatment sensitivity is usually mild and manages well with over-the-counter pain medication.
What if I need multiple restorations?
We build a phased treatment plan. Urgent issues are addressed first, then non-urgent work is spread across multiple visits so it fits your schedule and budget.
