What Makes Care Here Different

A SMALL TEAM THAT KNOWS YOU

Dr. Allison Bartley leads a close-knit clinical team where personal care still feels personal.

You’ll see familiar faces, and we take the time to know your dental history, your preferences, and what matters to you. That means less repeating yourself and more time focused on your care.

You’re never just the next name on the schedule.

Meet the people who will be caring for you on our team page.

COMPLETE CARE IN ONE LOCATION

From preventive care and same-day crowns to root canals, dental implants, clear aligners, and emergency treatment, many of the services you may need are available right here.

That means fewer referrals, fewer appointments in unfamiliar offices, and better continuity from diagnosis through treatment.

One team. One office. One place that knows your whole story.

WE EXPLAIN BEFORE WE TREAT

You deserve to understand what we see—and why we are recommending treatment.

Intraoral camera images let you see your teeth on the screen with us. Digital X-rays and AI-assisted review help us identify areas that deserve a closer look. Then we walk through the findings together in plain language.

We’ll explain what needs attention now, what can safely wait, and what your options are.

You make the decisions. Our job is to give you the information to make them confidently.

TECHNOLOGY THAT SAVES YOU TIME

Technology should make dentistry easier—not simply make the office look impressive.

CEREC same-day crowns can often eliminate a second appointment and a temporary crown. 3D Cone Beam imaging gives us detailed information for diagnosis and treatment planning, while digital scanning can replace uncomfortable traditional impressions in many cases.

Fewer appointments. More comfortable visits. More predictable care.

IF YOU ARE NERVOUS ABOUT THE DENTIST

Dental anxiety is incredibly common—and there is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Some patients come to us after years away from the dentist. Others have had a painful or frustrating experience somewhere else. Some simply dislike not knowing what is going to happen.

Whatever the reason, tell us when you schedule. We can slow things down, explain more, and plan your visit around what will make you most comfortable.

IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT DISCOMFORT

Your comfort matters.

We offer nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation when appropriate, and we do not begin until you are comfortable and ready.

If you need a break at any point, simply raise your hand.

Stopping is never an inconvenience. You are in control of the visit.

IF IT HAS BEEN YEARS SINCE YOUR LAST VISIT

No lectures. No judgment.

We see patients every week who have put dental care off for years. We start by understanding where you are today, explain what we find in plain language, and help you decide what makes sense to address first.

You do not have to fix everything at once. We start where you are.

IF YOU HAVE HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE ELSEWHERE

A bad dental experience can stay with you for a long time.

We listen before we treat. We explain what we are doing and why, give you time to ask questions, and make sure you understand your options before anything begins.

Your treatment plan belongs to you.

Nothing happens without your understanding and agreement.

IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT COST

You should know what treatment will cost before it begins.

We verify insurance benefits when applicable, explain your estimated portion, provide a written treatment plan, and review financing options when needed.

There should not be a financial surprise waiting for you after the appointment.

IF YOU WANT TO START SLOW

Your first visit does not have to involve treatment.

If you are especially anxious, ask about beginning with a consultation. Come in, meet us, talk about what has been bothering you, and learn what your options are.

Sometimes the easiest way back to dentistry is simply having a conversation first.

New patients

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST VISIT

Plan on approximately 60 to 90 minutes.

We use that time to get to know you, understand your concerns and goals, thoroughly evaluate your oral health, and make sure you leave knowing exactly where things stand.

WE START WITH A CONVERSATION

Before we examine a tooth, we talk.

Tell us what has been bothering you, what you would like to improve, what you may have been putting off, and how you feel about dental treatment in general.

That conversation helps us tailor the entire visit to you.

A THOROUGH, UNHURRIED EXAM

Your examination may include digital X-rays, an oral cancer screening, intraoral photographs, and a complete evaluation of your teeth, gums, bite, and surrounding structures.

Everything is explained as we go, and whenever possible, we show you what we see on the screen.

A WRITTEN PLAN WITH REAL NUMBERS

If treatment is recommended, you will leave knowing:

  • What needs attention now
  • What can safely wait
  • What your treatment options are
  • What insurance is estimated to pay
  • What your estimated out-of-pocket cost will be

We’ll answer your questions and give you time to decide.

No pressure. No mystery. No surprise bill.

CLEANING & NEXT STEPS

When your gum health allows, we can often complete your professional cleaning during the same visit.

If your gums need additional treatment first, we’ll explain exactly why and create an appropriate plan.

Treatment begins when you are ready.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Photo ID
  • Dental insurance card, if you are using insurance
  • A current list of medications and allergies
  • Recent dental X-rays, if available
  • Questions or concerns you want to discuss

Don’t have your previous X-rays? We can help request them for you.

New Patient Forms

Complete your forms before your appointment and spend less time on paperwork when you arrive.

We can send them securely by text or email, or you are welcome to complete them in the office.

Returning Patients

FOR RETURNING PATIENTS

Your routine preventive visit typically takes 45 to 60 minutes and includes a professional cleaning with your hygienist, updated X-rays when needed, and an examination with Dr. Bartley.

And if something changes between visits, you do not need to wait for your next cleaning.

Have a question? Something sensitive? A tooth suddenly hurts?

Call us. Many questions can be answered quickly, and urgent dental concerns can often be evaluated promptly.

Small things that help

SMALL THINGS THAT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

Dental care is easier when you are comfortable.

If there is something that would make your visit more relaxing, just ask. You never need a reason.

WHILE YOU WAIT
  • Coffee, tea, or water in our lounge
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
WHILE YOU’RE IN THE CHAIR
  • Cozy blanket
  • Neck pillow or lumbar support
  • Sunglasses or an eye mask for the overhead light
  • Lip balm
  • Headphones
  • Nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation when appropriate and arranged in advance

And if there is something else that would make your visit easier, please tell us.

We would much rather adjust the appointment around you than ask you to simply endure it.

Insurance and financing

Insurance, Financing, and What Things Cost

Dental care should not come with a surprise bill. We verify your benefits before treatment, put your estimated portion in writing, and talk through financing well before any work begins. If you do not have insurance, you still have good options.

Insurance Plans We Accept

We are in network with or accept benefits from most major PPO dental plans, including:

Delta Dental, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Guardian, MetLife, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Ameritas, Anthem, United Concordia, Principal, Connection Dental, GEHA, Dental Health Alliance, and AlwaysCare.

If your plan is not shown, call (847) 382-0700. We can often work with it as an out-of-network provider and still file the claim on your behalf.

How Billing Works

Before your visit

We verify your benefits, confirm your deductible and annual maximum, and check what is covered. This happens before you arrive, so there are no surprises at checkout.

At Your Visit

Your treatment plan and estimated patient portion are reviewed before any clinical work starts. If something changes mid-treatment, for example a cavity that turns out to need a root canal instead of a filling, we stop, explain the revised plan, and get your approval before continuing.

After Your Visit

We file the claim with your insurance and send you a statement for any remaining balance. If insurance pays more than expected, we refund the difference promptly.

In-Office Payment Plans

FAQs

Common Questions

How do I schedule my first appointment?

Call (847) 382-0700 during office hours or request an appointment online. Our scheduling coordinator will ask a few questions about your dental history and any specific concerns, then match you with the right appointment type and length of time.

How long will my first visit take?

Plan for 60 to 90 minutes. That covers a comprehensive exam, digital x-rays, an oral cancer screening, a conversation about your goals, and a cleaning when your gum health allows.

What if I am nervous about dental visits?

Tell us when you schedule. We offer nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation, and our team is experienced with dental anxiety. Many nervous patients start with a short consultation visit with no treatment planned, just a conversation, which makes the next appointment much easier.

Do you take walk-ins?

For emergencies we do our best to fit you in the same day. For routine appointments, scheduling ahead is much better, because it lets us block the right amount of time and have your chart and insurance ready before you arrive.

Can you tell me what a procedure will cost before I commit?

Yes. For anything more involved than a cleaning, we build a written treatment plan with your estimated out-of-pocket cost before you agree to proceed. If you want pricing before you schedule treatment, book a consultation.

Will you file my insurance for me?

Yes. We file claims on your behalf for in-network plans and most out-of-network plans, so the paperwork is not your problem.

What if my insurance denies a claim?

We appeal on your behalf when an appeal is appropriate. Most legitimate claims are paid after a properly documented appeal. If something genuinely is not covered, we tell you so you can plan around it.

What if I cannot afford the treatment you recommend?

Talk to us. We prioritize what is urgent, phase the rest, and walk through financing including CareCredit. For patients without insurance, our Signature Circle membership covers preventive care at a fixed annual cost. There is almost always a path forward.

How do I pay for treatment?

Cash, check, all major credit cards, and CareCredit financing. You can also pay online. For insured patients we bill insurance directly where possible, and your expected portion is always discussed before treatment.

Can I bring my child to my appointment?

Yes, and we welcome children as patients too. Our team is comfortable with first dental visits for kids and with keeping them settled while a parent is being seen. Let us know when you schedule so we can plan the timing.

How long has South Barrington Dental Care been in operation?

South Barrington Dental Care has been serving patients in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago for years and has built a strong local reputation for comprehensive, patient-centered care. Dr. Allison Bartley leads the practice and the all-female clinical team.
